What is ACE Benthyg?

ACE Benthyg is a place where you can:

  • Borrow things you need but don’t own
  • Donate things you own but no longer need
  • Meet people and share knowledge and skills with your community

How do I join?

Create your online member account by selecting Register at the top of this page. Alternatively, pop in to see us and we’ll help you set up your account.

To join, you must:

  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Have an email address
  • Agree to our terms and conditions

The first time you borrow an item, please bring photo ID—such as a driving licence or passport—and a utility bill. You’ll only need to provide these documents once.

Do I have to pay to join?

There is no joining fee if you’re becoming a member for personal use.

If you’re joining to borrow items on behalf of a community group or business, we’ll ask you to pay a small joining fee.


How do I borrow an item?

Join as a member. Create your membership account online or pop in to see us for help.

Reserve an item. Choose what you’d like to borrow, select a suitable collection date and time, and pay for the length of time you need it.

Collect your item. Visit your selected borrowing location during its opening hours.

Get involved if you’d like to! Attend one of our events or become a volunteer to meet people in your community.


Do I have to pay to borrow an item?

Yes, there is a small borrowing fee. The cost is shown on each item’s listing in the categories on the left-hand side of the page.

You can pay using:

  • Money
  • Time credits
  • Volunteering time
  • Skill sharing

We want everyone to be able to borrow from us, regardless of their circumstances. Our concessionary membership is available to people who might otherwise be unable to borrow, including those who are:

  • Unemployed
  • Receiving government support
  • On a low income
  • Receiving the State Pension

If your circumstances aren’t listed but the cost could prevent you from borrowing, please pop in to see us or send us an email. We’ll be happy to help.


How do I donate an item?

We’re always working to improve ACE Benthyg and increase the variety of items available to our members.

If you have something useful and in good condition that you’d like to donate, please bring it to us during our opening hours.

We welcome items such as:

  • Garden tools
  • Camping equipment
  • Kitchen equipment
  • Toys
  • Games


Who runs this project?

ACE Benthyg is run by ACE—Action in Caerau and Ely, a community organisation based at Dusty Forge.
